Optimize Your Business by Eliminating What’s In the Way with Mat Lewczenko

At this EMC Monday Mastermind we were joined by national trainer, author, and eXp Regional Director of Growth Mat Lewczenko, who unpacked the biggest hidden bottleneck in most real estate businesses: interference. This isn’t about tools, scripts, or tactics. It’s about what’s actually stopped you from implementing what you already know.

Why “More Info” Isn’t the Answer

Mat began the session with a core insight:

You already know what you should be doing — the gap between where you are and where you want to be isn’t caused by lack of knowledge. It’s caused by interference.

This interference is what stops you from doing the activities you know would grow your business — whether that’s follow-up, lead gen, or consistent nurturing.


The Core Framework: Performance = Potential − Interference

Mat shared a simple but powerful formula:

Performance = Potential − Interference 


Your results aren’t limited by your capability — they’re limited by what’s getting in your way.


The 3 Types of Interference That Kill Momentum

Mat broke interference into three main categories — all of which show up in every business and every agent’s life:


1. Business Interference

These are the internal things that keep you stuck, like:

  • Fear (especially fear of success)

  • Limiting beliefs (“I’m too new”, “I don’t have a sphere”)

  • Lack of skills or follow-through

  • False productivity (busy work instead of revenue work)

  • Lack of discipline (only doing work when you feel like it)


The truth? You already know the key activities — you just aren’t doing them consistently because something gets in the way.


2. Relational Interference

Even well-meaning people can unintentionally pull you off track:

  • Friends and family encouraging you to relax when you need to build

  • Loved ones questioning your time commitments

  • An inner circle with low standards that subtly limits your growth


Mat reminded the group that your environment either lifts you up or drags you down, and managing access is a crucial part of business success.


3. Physical & Mental Interference

This is the part most agents don’t want to talk about, but Mat stressed that your body and mind are the foundation of your business:

  • Poor sleep, nutrition, and stress management

  • No healthy outlet for stress or energy

  • Ignored mental health or unresolved personal issues


You can’t fire on all cylinders if your foundation is shaky.


Key Questions You Should Ask Yourself

Mat encouraged journaling and honest reflection by asking:

  • What’s the one thing you know you should be doing consistently that you’re avoiding?

  • Which interference category is keeping you stuck? 


Naming the obstacle is the first step to removing it.


Everyone Took the One-Change Challenge

At the end of the call Mat asked everyone to commit to 1 interference to eliminate this week — not three, not five — just one.


Here’s a sampling of the commitments from the group:

  • Better sleep habits to improve stamina and clarity

  • Refining an existing process instead of postponing it

  • Setting boundaries so you’re not solving everyone else’s problems

  • Getting paperwork done early instead of last minute 


These aren’t big course purchases — they’re small, actionable choices that move the needle immediately.


The Bottom Line

If your business feels stuck, it’s not because you need another tool or trick.

It’s because something internal is blocking consistent action — and until you identify and remove that interference, you’ll keep spinning your wheels.

Mat’s challenge was clear:
